Amazon and Governor Josh Shapiro announced the plan on June 9, 2025. They identified Salem Township in Luzerne County and Falls Township in Bucks County as the first communities, with additional locations under consideration and at least 1,250 high-skilled jobs projected. The at-least-$20-billion figure was a statewide planned investment, not an amount allocated to each township or a completed buildout. This is a separate development announcement from the excluded November 1, 2024 Susquehanna FERC decision; it does not establish any particular interconnection approval. Reuters reported the announcement on June 9.
