On April 16, 2024 Georgia’s PSC approved the settlement in Georgia Power’s 2023 integrated resource plan update. AJC reported that four commissioners approved the additions, with one abstention, chiefly to meet incoming data center and industrial demand. The vote authorized resources; it did not mean every generating unit or battery was already operating. Georgia Power projected customer benefits and downward pressure on rates for 2026–2028, while AJC reported critics’ doubts about bill reductions and fossil-fuel reliance. The utility announcement, AP report and AJC report are dated April 16. This is broader data center demand, not exclusively verified AI load.
