On July 9, PUCO ordered AEP Ohio to file tariffs specific to data centers, citing unprecedented load growth, transmission investment and the risk of shifting underused infrastructure costs to other customers. Its release documents competing settlements, including one involving Microsoft, Amazon Data Services and Google. This is a hyperscale-sector regulatory event, not approval or rejection of an individual AI facility; not all affected workloads are demonstrated to be AI. The order date is distinct from implementation: AEP says the compliance tariff was filed July 11 and became effective July 23, 2025.
