Residents of the Hugo-Hoffmann-Ring neighbourhood in Hattersheim near Frankfurt complained of a persistent hum from neighbouring NTT Global Data Centers FRA4 buildings, which had been intended to act as a noise barrier. NTT later said almost all noise heard outside comes from cooling and that it had worked to make the buildings quieter.
