On May 22, 2025 a fire burned for hours at a Digital Realty data center in Hillsboro, Oregon. A fire department report obtained by WIRED found it began in a Schneider Electric uninterruptible power supply (UPS) cabinet, likely from an electrical or mechanical issue; lithium-ion batteries were ruled out. People familiar with the matter told WIRED that Elon Musk's X has servers at the site. WIRED notes AI power demand could raise data center fire risk, but sources do not establish that this facility runs AI workloads.
