OpenAI announced Stargate on January 21, 2025, saying its Texas buildout was underway. Bloomberg reported on January 23 that the first associated campus was in Abilene, with about 875 acres set aside for data centers; Reuters separately described Oracle’s collaboration with developer Crusoe. The announced $500 billion over four years was a nationwide investment intention, not Abilene spending already incurred. January 21 is the venture announcement date, not the original construction start or a zoning vote. The specific Abilene identification here comes from January 23 reporting; no completed campus or power-delivery outcome is implied.
