On July 2, the Shelby County Health Department approved an operating permit for 15 stationary gas turbines at xAI’s Paul R. Lowry Road site. The approved application put their combined generating capacity at 247.2 MW. This is the permit issuance, not the separately excluded July 16 appeal. xAI welcomed the decision and promised emissions controls; opponents criticized it. Those statements do not establish actual future emissions performance. The AI connection is direct.
