In its July 24, 2025, announcement, CPUC said it approved an interim rule to accelerate transmission-level connections in PG&E territory for high-energy users including AI data centers and EV charging stations. Previously, PG&E handled these requests case by case. The interim pathway required applicants to pay necessary transmission-infrastructure costs upfront; refund terms and cost allocation remained for a later decision. This was a service-rule decision, not approval or energization of a specific data center, and it also covers non-AI uses.
